OLLIE HOW – 24th World Scout Jamboree
My name is Ollie How and I am an ex-pupil at Scarcroft. I am now in year 8 at Millthorpe and along with 35 other young people aged between 14 and 18 from North Yorkshire I have been selected to go to the 24th World Scout Jamboree in August 2019. We will be representing York, North Yorkshire and the U.K among 40,000 scouts from all over the world. The World Scout Jamboree is an event which is held every 4 years in a different country and this time will be held in America.
On this 3-week trip we will be staying in the biggest scout reserve in the world meeting, working with, learning about and interacting with other young people from all over the world.
The World Scout Jamboree aims to bring people from around the world together, building international understanding, co-operation and friendship.
However, I have to raise the money to fund my trip and help subsidise those going from countries in the developing world. So far, I have cleaned teachers’ & neighbours’ cars and have been offering odd jobs round my neighbourhood. I have been busking at Christmas and on Mother’s Day we put on a tea, cake and musical afternoon with many lovely performances from family and friends. I am planning to do a stall at the Bishy Road street party as well as the Scarcroft Summer and Christmas fairs, as well as a sponsored bike ride across North Yorkshire.
If anyone in the Scarcroft community is willing to support my fundraising and has any odd jobs they want doing or want their car cleaned, cat looked after etc. in return for a small donation to my fund, please E-Mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org or E-Mail my mum email@example.com
On behalf of the 15 Scouts going from York to the jamboree, we are also looking for any corporate sponsorship from companies that would help to fund our amazing journey. If you have any work connections where this would help please e-mail me or my mum again.
Thank you, Ollie
